Happy October 6th, beautiful people!
I hope this email is hitting your inbox and finding you feeling refreshed, rested, nourished and peaceful- oooooor, maybe life is chaotic as sh*t right now and you're just happy to have a moment to read this (: Listen, I feeeeeel you.
It has been 2 weeks since Arden and I finished our crazy cycling tour from Italy to Scotland, and let me be serious here, my butt has never been more grateful! hahah. Really though. Scotland was absolutely stunning (you should all have it on your travel lists) but we were really challenged physically, mentally and emotionally our final 2.5 weeks. We were able to sell our bikes to a local man in Edinburgh for $100 for both and that felt like Christmas came early! We paid about $500 for the two (thank you Italy Decathlon), essentially lived on them for 2 months and then were able to give them another life. If you're looking for a cheap way to travel, want to be challenged in a lot of ways, but also experience nature like never before- bicycle touring is the way to do it, my friends.
I was putting some thought into what the heck I wanted to write about in this email, and I nearly forgot that we recently shifted into autumn (at least for friends in the northern hemisphere). Seasons have been so tricky to fully experience and embrace this year while I've been traveling to so many different places all over the world. December was New Zealand's summer, and we rode that warm weather wave, honestly, all the way up until just recently in the UK! Of course, freezing temperatures in Nepal were somewhere in there, too haha. But I'm a seasonal girly- I love the different feels, smells, tastes, everything!Instead of sharing some uber wordy, fluffy, inspirational paragraphs in this email, I was thinking I'd hold off on that (oh wait, you can actually read that here from last year, and dang is it fluffy hahah) Maybe try to offer some insight on why these seasonal transitions matter, and how we can really focus our attention to be more mindful of what we need.
Not just when we shift from summer to autumn, but any seasonal change, we face an opportunity to readjust our schedules and routines. In this instance, days become shorter with less daylight, maybe you or your kids are going back to school, eating patterns may shift and sometimes finding the motivation to leave the house when it's still dark out is straight up hard! It's a tricky one, because the seasonal changes can bring a really wonderful sense of new beginnings, but we can also feel an increase in demands from our workloads.
You can find some really helpful journal prompts lower in the email to help with this, but consider taking inventory of your current habits. Things like- what time you're getting in bed, falling asleep and then waking up, what time your meals are, how much time you spend on a screen, when you're most likely to get a workout session in, etc. Check in with what routines are serving you best and what are some non-negotiables as the season changes. It's a great time to recommit to personal goals we may have and really put the time into the daily "work" that's involved with those goals. Not just "run a 5k" or "get 6 new clients" but actually thinking through the daily steps that are involved in making that achievable. ***Side note, I officially announced the 2026 Intention Setting Ceremony date and time in this email and we do all of this stuff that I'm talking about now***
Loving strategies like returning to your "why" and focusing on systems rather than outcomes can be really beneficial. Other things that really help me slow down or create a sense of peace in somewhat chaotic environments are:
mindful breaks- just 2 or 3 minutes of pausing, seeing how we're feeling, taking a deep breath or a nice sigh, getting our feet in the grass/sand/water/dirt, letting sun hit our skin, this kind of gud gud.
creating an environment that feels safe and supportive- I'm talking low lighting if doable, candles, comfortable seating, decluttering our spaces.
presence over perfection- attempting to not get so bothered by things that truly don't matter. Not letting other people's judgements consume us, define us or alter our confidence and purpose. Authenticity is one of the most beautiful things we can offer ourselves and others.
practice connection over correction- I think this can be really helpful when spending time with other people like children, parents, friends, coworkers. Beginning a day or conversation with kindness, open-mindedness or even playfulness instead of demanding, correcting or insulting comments can be transformative for the energy of the day.
Transitions are a natural part of life, and I like to think that autumn can serve as a reminder that change can be grounding, not just disruptive. I hope that this season is an opportunity to reset our focus, recommit to goals that truly matter (those heart-centered ones!) and find new rhythms that support our well-being and sense of peace! Whether you’re adjusting to a busy back-to-school schedule, feeling the darkness creep in, being reminded of loved ones who won't be here for the holidays, managing increased responsibilities at work, or simply feeling the pull to slow down and reflect, I really hope you feel that you’re not alone in navigating this seasonal shift and find comfort in connecting deeply with others, or yourself!
Almost 2 months to the day, I'll be back in the US and taking on all that will come with that, but I'm personally finding comfort knowing I'll be a little (or a lot) closer to my people. So thank you for being you, for being here, and for making the world a better, kinder, more peaceful place.
I hope October is so, so good to you.
