On Relationships

Relationships cross my mind a lot. I find them fascinating. Probably because as I get older, I realize they are everything. Everyyything. Relationships with friends, with strangers, with our partners, with OURSELVES.
I think our relationships are pretty clear representations of how we are doing internally, what our priorities are. What we value. Sometimes social media can do a really great job of faking this. A place where we treat strangers on Instagram with more kindness than our closest friends. Where we throw the word “love” around when its toxicity is poisoning us. Are we preaching self-love and acceptance while knowing that we ourselves are not listening to those words?
It’s tough being a part of a “flaky” generation with our relationships. Never returned phone calls, ignored texts, the “let’s catch up” but never do. Why are we so flaky? Where is the honesty, the genuineness, and the empathy? Relationships go both ways, they require effort and energy from each direction. Maybe this is why we find them so difficult. Because we don’t have entire control. And oh how we love control. It’s tough, it really is. We have this beautiful thing, connection through relationships, where we have one another, we don’t have to do this life thing alone. But it has to be reciprocated.
I’m focusing on being more intentional with my relationships, while also recognizing that they are ever evolving. Maybe you’ve realized that too. May we keep peace within. People come and go. The right ones for you, will stay. Those are your people. This is your home.
